Why Am I Experiencing Fast Heart Rate And Chest Pain?

Hello my name is erika. For over a week now I have been experiencing a fast heart rate and the first time I experienced this I was sweating, chest pains and found it hard to breathe, I counted my heart rate when I was resting and it was 119 beats per minute, could there be anything wrong?

Hello Erika!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would like to explain, it is necessary that you perform a medical check up to rule out possible serious cardiac disorders.

A physical exam coupled with a resting ECG, chest X ray study, cardiac ultrasound and lab tests (including cardiac enzymes) are helpful to confirm/exclude potential ischemic cardiac disorders/cardiac arrhythmia (like atrial fibrillation, SVT, etc), or pulmomary embolism.

If cardiac ischemia is suspected, additional tests, like stress test, other imagine imagine modalities should be sought.

A triple rule out chest angio CT, would investigate concomitantly coronary arteries, pulmonary arterial treee, and aortic integrity.

If clinical evidence of arrhythmia are found, an ambulatory 24 to 48 hours ECG monitoring would clarify this issue.

You need to immediately discuss with your attending physician about the above mentioned issues.

Hope to have been helpful!

Greetings! Dr. Iliri
