Why I Am Experiencing Periods Twice A Month?

Hi, I have been experiencing periods twice a month for the last 6 years. I am 24, and was placed on BCP pill at 12 years old to regulate this. I took it until the age of 18 . [Note: my pill was changed 3 times, because the pill never successfully regulated my period]. I have never been pregnant [which is also strange].I am married and hope to have children of my own one day. I also experience breast milk production and have shooting and vibrating pains from both breasts. I thought this might stem from the pituitary gland, my prolactin levels, or even be a cyst or fibroid in the uterus, but all the tests requested and suggested to my doctor have concluded that all levels are normal. I have taken all my tests, hormonal, prolactin, blood, sugar, cholesterol, etc. and both my GP and OBGYN said everything is normal. Just need to be placed on BCP . I do not want to take the BCP because I hope to have children by the age of 30. I am now 24. And do not want the BCP to ireegulate my problem even more.

Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hi

From your symptoms and treatment, it seems you are suffering from PCOS. Please share you Ultrasound report (if done) and blood work. What is your height, weight and BMI ? I would suggest you to get the following tests on days 3-5 of your next period:

1. Serum Testosterone
2. 17 Hydroxyprogesterone
3. Free T4 and TSH

Please share the report with us and we will do needful. As far as pregnancy is concerned, most patients with PCOS do well with ovulation induction with Clomiphene citrate. So, when you are planning to conceive, you need to consult you Endocrinologist/ Gynecologist for ovulation induction.

Regards
Dr. Om J Lakhani
