When Do Periods Normalize After Stopping Birth Control Pills?

I took birth control pills for about 2 years (with the exception of a few months), and my husband and I decided in March that we would like to start trying to have a baby this summer; so I stopped using the pill in March since I read that it usually takes several months to start ovulating again. It s now August, 5 months later, and my period has not returned back to normal. Since the time my period was supposed to come in March, I have been bleeding almost on a daily basis. It s never heavy enough to use a tampon, and sometimes I see just a spot; but it is just about every day. I have been trying to do a little reading about it, but none of what I read agree with each other. Some say it s normal to take several months to get back on track, some say up to six months, etc; some say the continuous bleeding is expected, and some say I should see a doctor. I have taken pregnancy tests periodically throughout this time to be sure I am not pregnant, and they have always been negative. I don t want to overreact if this is just typical, but I am wondering what is normal, why this happens, and when I can expect my period to return. Thanks!

Hello,
I have gone through the query and understood your concern. Ovulation returns in one or two months after stopping oral contraception. Persistent spotting for so long is abnormal and should be investigated. Hormonal imbalance must be corrected, if any, to ensure regular natural ovulation as you are anxious to conceive. Please maintain a healthy weight, regular exercise and a healthy diet. Hope this helps.
