What Would Red And Swollen Uvula Indicate?

I am 47, female, in good health, woke up in the middle of the night last night with a feeling that two items were dangling from the back of my throat or sinus. It was solid and not mucus, it felt like it was choking me a bit as it reached into my throat and was triggering my gag reflex. My Uvula is really red and swollen this morning and the two dangling objects are still there ... they feel as if they are almost behind the soft palate in the sinus cavity or on either side of the back throat but they definately move around attached to something.

What could this be???

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms you are suffering from TONSILLITIS along with UVULITIS.
This can occur commonly due to either bacterial or viral infection leading to inflammation and swelling of the tonsils and the dangling things that you are feeling are swollen tonsils on either sides..

The swollen and inflammed uvula is also due to infection..

Nothing to worry, you can start a course of antibiotics like AZITHROMYCIN 500 mg once daily for 5 days..
Do warm saline gargles atleast 3 to 4 times a days..
Suck on throat lozenges one every 4 hours.
Do steam inhalations and use humidifier at home..
Chew a Vitamin C pellet daily..
Avoid hot,spicy and hard foods..
In case if the pain and swelling is not resolved consult an ENT expert and get evaluated and he can do necessary investigations and if required can advise you oral as well as injectable steroids and antibiotics t reduce inflammation and infection..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
