What Treatment Should I Prefer For Lowering Sugar Level?
my father is 83 yrs old and has been having his blood sugar over 200 for 7 days, he is predibetic and is taking Glipizide 5 mg but it hasn t been bringing his sugar down, I am also having a problem getting him to realize that this is life and death, If I can t get him stable I am going to take him to the hospital I feel that it is pass time for that but he doesn t want to go. And it s hard when he is your father. Is their anything that I can do now. also thank you for your help.
Hello, Your father is a diabetic and not prediabetic,since his blood sugar levels are hovering above 200. In fact at such an old age we don't tend to bring down sugar levels very drastically. Even if his sugar levels are around 170-180,it is perfectly all right. You can increase the dose of glipizide 5 mg once a day to twice a day,although there are many better oral antidiabetics are available in market.We don't prefer giving glipizide at such an old age. It is not an emergency and hence you can consult your doctor for a revised prescription. Thanks
