Can I Take Half Glipizide After My Ct Scan Without Hurting My Kidneys?

I am having a ct scan tomorrow morning. my questions is can I take glipizide after my ct scan without hurting my kidneys? My dr. told me not to take medformin after my procedure for 2 days after my procedure but I am worried about my sugar going up. Would it be ok to take a 1/2 of glipizide?

Hi,

If Metformin is taken along with intravenou Iodinated contrast media during CT scan there is a risk of getting a serious side effect of lactic acidosis. Because of this side effect Metformin should be stopped at the time of your CT scan and for at least 48 hours after your test. You may take half Glipizide tablet to control your blood glucose as its use is not associated with lactic acidosis. After 48 hours, return to your usual doses of Metformin.

Hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
