I have a red knot on the lower part of the top of my ear it is red and hard as a rock, hurts really bad and it is sending a burning pain down the side of my face next to my left ear. I don't understand how I got it. It started the day before yesterday when I got up in the morning at that time it was just burning a little now I am miserable and I want to pop it but it won't pop.

Hi,

I can understand your concern for the sudden swelling, redness and discomfort at different areas of body.

After reading the query, in my opinion it appears to be possibility of Sun burn: this is due to exposure to sunlight which causes sudden redness with pain sensation rather than itching.

I suggest you to apply medium potency steroid cream application because are best effective in these condition. I would have opted for either mometasone or Fluticasone or cortisone cream.

Do not pinch, pop or scratch or even touch the area unnecessarily as it can cause aggravation of the rash.

Stay away from direct sunlight and hot environment. It would be best to consult a dermatologist for the best possible cause.

Take care.
