What Questions Should Be Asked Prior To Intraperitoneal Chemo Treatment?

Dr. My mother has stage 3 epithelial ovarian cancer as determined by her symptoms and an abdominal CT scan. We are going to a pre surgery meeting tomorrow and I am researching what questions I need to ask. She is 86 yrs of age and up to this point in time, has been very healthy, having never been on any long term perscription drugs. I am also researching chemo treatments and the possibility of Intraperitoneal Chemo treatment. Please let me know what pre-surgery questions I should be asking and if IP Chemo may be a good choice.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Owing to her advanced age, I don't think intraperitoneal chemotherapy is a possibility. Traditional chemotherapy may be an option, if she is physically fit.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
