What Precautions To Be Taken While Giving Anaesthesia To Sinus Bradycardia Patient?

I am having a hysterectomy (vaginal) with general anesthesia. I am 63 years old and it was just discovered that I have sinus bradycardia. Will that affect me under general anesthesia in any negative way? Any particular precautions that the anesthesiologist should take? Will I be approved for surgery?

Hi,

Sinus bradycardia is not always pathological and may be a normal finding in some individuals specially in people who are athletic or visit gym on a daily basis. At 63 years of age if the heart rate is less than 60 beats per minute then it would be wise to get a cardiac clearance prior to surgery to rule out heart block or any other cardiac pathology. After ruling out cardiac ailments the anesthesiologist would also advice some general blood tests to rule out anemia. If these things are fine then it should be fine to get operated.
