What Medication Should Be Used For Itchy, Red, Blotchy Patches On Face After Being Diagnosed With Both Eczema And Rosacea?

i have been diagnosed with eczema by two different doctors one from the USA and one here in Ecuador and now I have been diagnosed with rosacea. One month ago i had a severe allergy reaction with a swollen face and swollen eyes. Since then my face has not been the same. It is red most of the days with a few better days. My question is when do i know it is eczema and when it is rosacea? Today my face is red, blotchy and parts are starting to itch with two small flaky patches. i also have starting feeling it on my neck. My face is very dry. i live in a hot, humid tropical climate in south america. Since i have medicine for both and I have heard that it is not wise to put hydrocortisone on rosacea, I do not know what to put on my face today. I also have started minociclina 50 mg three days ago, but my face has gotten worse in the last two days. i try to stay in air-conditioning because i sweat easily. So can i put hydrocortisone on my face today? Thank you.

Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at HCM.

Rosacea patients have a very sensitive skin which is easily prone to irritation

General measures:

-Use a mild cleanser like cetaphil twice daily.
-Use a sunscreen lotion OR cream with broad spectrum (minimum spf 30), active against both UVA and UVB.
-Continue with Minocycline.
-Can use a mild steroid only over the scaly patches once daily at night for a week. Don't use steroids regularly.

Along with oral antibacterials/antiinflammatory like Minocycline, i usually ask my patients of rosacea to use a topical antibacterial gels like clindamycin OR Metronidazole gel, if they get acneform eruptions over face.

Metronidazole gel can be used over whole face once daily at night

take care
