What Medical Condition Could Cause Changes In The Sense Of Taste?

This may be a weird question but, for some reason when I am eating sometimes, I taste something different from the foods I am actually eating. For example, I was eating a poutine the other day and it weirdly made me think of goldfish crackers, and then when I was eating chicken the night after, the skin to me tasted like fruit loops. And just now when i ate a slice of bread it tasted like captain crunch cereal. None of my family members could taste the same thing and just tasted the regular food product. Is there a reason this could be happening. I know this is a weird question but I’m just curious as to why this might happen

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello,

Although it is difficult to answer without physical examination I feel there is a need for complete neurological examination especially cranial nerves which supply our taste buds. Change of taste sensation often occurs due to neurological problems.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashok Kumar, Psychiatrist
