What Is The Weird Sound When I Move My Jaw?

i have a lot of TMJ. My jaw clicks and pops out of alignment, I grind my teeth at night and my dentist said I have 5 out of 5 symptoms of TMJ. I wear a nightguard. The only mystery I have is that often when I swallow or move my jar, the one that hurts the most, makes a sound like two pieces of paper rubbing against each other. I assume that is part of the TMJ but it is a consistently wierd sound.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain yes, it is true that you have symptoms of TMJ and all the symptoms are pointing towards TMJ and the rubbing type of sound that you are experiencing is also due to TMJ and there is a possibility that the articular disc that is present in between the two bony ends of the joint has displaced leading to rubbing of the two bony surfaces together leading to rubbing sound and pain..
You need to consult an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Orthopntomogram can help in diagnosis and treatment either medical or surgical can be done accordingly..
As of now you can take painkillers like Ibuprofen or Tramadol if pain is severe and muscle relaxant like Chlorzoxasone..
Do warm compresses over the joint region..
Take a soft diet and avoid excess mouth opening..
