What Is The Typical Length Of Time For Tonsillitis To Heal?

Hi, I came down with Tonsillitis last Saturday night. Monday morning my doctor put me on Amox and advil as well as salt water gargle. I have been battling back, but my tonsils still have puss on them and while my neck is not swollen and the swelling in my tonsils has gone done drastically, yesterday morning I woke up to a massively swollen uvula. It is still swollen this morning despite a number of remedies I tried. I would go to my doctor, but I do not have insurance and the bills add up. Tomorrow morning will be one week since I started antibiotics. As a normally healthy 28 year old man, how concerned should I be about my healing progress and now swollen uvula? What is the typical length of time for tonsillitis to heal? How long does puss normally stay on ones tonsils?

Hello,

If it is bacterial infection it may take one week. But viral infections recovery may vary from one week to 3 weeks. Use Azithromycin 500 mg once a day followed by 250 mg once a day for four days. Avoid cool drinks and ice creams, drink hot water, soups. If no improvement please consult with your treating doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
