What Is The Treatment For Vocal Cord Infection?
Hi, My father, got exposed to heavy morning dew while travelling in a motorcycle. Now he has got some kind of vocal cord infection in which he is not able to speak for last 7 days. His speech is just coming as a whisper. He does not have any throat pain or difficulty in sallowing food. Just his vocal cord is not working. He took azithromicine for 3 days and now taking Mega CV-625, Medrol 16mg, Alaspan..The doctor says that we can wait for another 2 weeks and then if it does not improve, can go for endoscopy. I am getting a little impatient.Please let me know what is this disease and if waiting for another 2 weeks is a good idea.what is the treatment and what is the worse case scenario.

Change in voice of whatsoever nature in elderly people should be investigated as soon as possible as there is a chance of cancer that needs to be ruled out as soon as possible. Laryngoscopy will tell us the exact cause which can be one of the following:
- Thickening of one vocal cord hence causing disparity
- Vocal cord polyp
- Cancer of vocal cord or structures nearby, inflammatory changes
- Single's nodules
Additional things to do are:
* Voice rest means do not speak
* Oral steroids may be necessary if no diabetes
* Anti-inflammatory
* Steam inhalation
* Further treatment as per the findings of endoscopy
