What Is The Treatment For Soreness And White Spot In The Tongue?

my tongue had a white spot which was sore for several months. my dentist took a brush biopsy and said not to worry, it was inflamation. The sore continued and I had a biopsy last Friday. My ENT called and left a message on two of my phones saying he has the results of my tongue biopsy and for me to call back. I called last evening but he was not on-call. I called today, but he is out of the office. I started to panic and asked if there was a nurse or anyone who could tell me something. I was told to wait until Monday. The post biopsy area is white and flat. What do you think that I will get told on Monday?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history of negative brush biopsy for white spot and soreness over tongue and the report of excision biopsy is awaited making you anxious. Well, I can understand. Making a guess is of no use and if there would have been cancer you would have been told to consult urgently or asked for a referral to onco-surgeon. Stop worrying.
- The biopsy in oral cavity is left with white area in all the cases so no worry in this regards
- Continue Povidone iodine gargles
- Continue the medicines as would have been advised by your doctor
- Take multivitamins and mineral for long term to avoid such problems
- Get Vitamin A and D levels to get the correct doses if required
- Plenty of oral fluids to maintain hydration and electrolyte balance
- Further management as per the biopsy report and clinical presentation

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
