What Is The Treatment For Pericarditis?

I was diagnosed with pericarditis about 5 weeks ago. The pain was very severe for the first 3 weeks or so. The last couple weeks have been much better. I do still have some very minor chest pain, just kind of a reminder that it is still there, but easy to manage with. Before getting pericarditis, I was very physicaly active. My Dr. told me that exercising would be a very bad thing for me to do at this time. How long would it be wise to wait before, running, cycling, swimming, ect?

Thank you for your question! First of all I would like to assure you that pericarditis is mostly not a dramatic illness, except for its acute pains; and except when there is evidence of the involvement of an important mass of the adjacent myocardium; if no myocarditis is present; no clinically important fluid has remained in the pericardial space if not ever at all; and no primary pericardial disease is suspected; then your daily physical activity could be restored depending only on the clinical presence of pain; I recommend you not to hurry up, but to listen to your doctor because he knows all these dilemmas I explained to you; If the chest pain with disappear I believe there will be no more limitation.
Hope to have been helpful to you, Best regard, Dr. Iliri
