What Is The Treatment For Nose Bleed?

I had my nose cauterized 11 days ago due to nosebleeds. I used a saline spray and now it started bleeding. I pinched my nose for 10 minutes and it stopped. I have been blowing my nose in over the last 11 days. I have not been blowing my nose out during this same time. The doctor said not to blow your nose for 14 days. Did he mean not to blow your nose both in and out? I have been using the neti pot since 2007 so my nose feels more congested. What will be the treatment now?

Hi

Welcome in H.C.M.

I understand your problem and as you said that your nose started re bleeding even after cauterization which stopped by pinching the nostrils. Here I would like to attract your attention towards factors responsible for nose bleed like-

1- Hypertension.

2- Thrombocytopenia ( low platelet count in blood ).

3- Severe anemia.

4- Aquared bleeding disorder.

5- Local nasal disease like growth or polyp etc.

Considering all above in mind you should consult your ENT doctor for thorough examination and necessary investigations to plan for treatment.

You are interested to know the effect of blowing in and out of nose on nasal bleeding. In this reference I would like to tell you that both blowing in and out are precipitating nasal bleeding as-

Blowing out nose will cause increase in intra thoracic pressure and thus nasal veins gets engorge.

Similarly blowing in will lead to removal of nasal crust from bleeding site and re bleeding will take place.

Thanks for consulting H.C.M.
