Hi,

Thanks for the query.
There are many causes for these symptoms.
The first is you must rule out pregnancy as slight bleeding is not uncommon in early pregnancy and the heavier bleed later may be a possible abortion. So get a urine pregnancy test done urgently.

Other common causes include hormonal imbalances like thyroid problems. I pills can also alter periods but this is usually a temporary phenomenon. Tumors of the uterus like fibroids or condition called adenomyosis [ with increased size of the uterus] also cause heavy bleeding. tumors of the cervix like polyps or fibroids, infections and sometimes [very rare in your case considering your age] cancers can cause such bleed.

I suggest that you first do a urine pregnancy test using the first morning sample of urine. If it is negative, take drugs like tranexamic acid tablets twice daily to control bleeding temporarily.

Get an ultrasound of pelvis done to look for any pathology inside the uterus. A pelvic examination by a gynecologist may be needed to rule out lesions of the cervix. If all these are negative a hormone testing may be needed.

Hope this helped.
Thanks for using HCM.
