Hi Mr. Rajwinder,

I can understand your concern for your father. Proxyvon contains opioids and your father needs to be managed for opioid dependence.

First of all, its very necessary that the patient himself should be motivated enough. If he is not, it will be difficult to make him comply to treatment. he may be treated as an inpatient or even outpatient. Opioids has to be stopped completely and withdrawal symptoms managed with medicines like clonidine and analgesics. Once the withdrawal phase gets over, he can be given naltrexone which helps in maintaining long term abstinence. Regular counseling is a must together with medicines.

In case your father has tried quitting earlier with the help of medications bur relapsed many times and if this treatment fails, he can be considered for opioid substitution therapy where he can be given permitted opioids (buprenorphine) under supervision.

So, go ahead and seek a psychiatric consultation for your father. Best wishes.
