What Is The Swelling Of Tonsils With No Fever And Pain?

Hi. I have an 8 year old daughter. Her tonsils are swollen but she has no fever, she does not complain of painful swallowing either. This is the second time her tonsils have been swollen in six months but the first one was with high temperature fever.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted a short history about your 8 year old daughter who had fever with tonsillar enlargement 6 months ago, but now there is no fever but still there is enlargement of tonsils without any other symptoms.
I can understand your concerns as your daughter is only 8 year old and out of curiosity it seems that you have observed her tonsils as there are no symptoms.
8 years is the age wherein the tonsils and adenoid are fully functional healing to trap the infection in the nose and oral cavity.
Hence there is enlargement of the tonsils, adenoids, lingual tonsils and so on.
So stop worrying if there is no complaints.
Consult your ENT Surgeon to watch for anterior pillar redness, Jugulo-diagrastic that is JD node enlargement or collection of infection or pus in the tonsils.
If nothing is positive and if there is no complaints no treatment may be needed, let the ENT decide on examination and investigations.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT and General Surgeon
