What is the remedy for foot diabetic neuropathy with numbness ?

Foot diabetic neuropathy w/numbness;feels red pin-prick spot that burns; is on meds/insulin; hydrocodone or lydoderm patch eases it - bad? I asked this earlier and a doctor answered -- This condition is concerning. The treatment is in the right lines. Monitor your sugars regularly. He does and sugars are good. My concern - could there be an ulcer forming or something like this? He has talked to his Podiatrist and they said try Aspercreme and maybe a Tens Unit.

Hello
In long standing diabetes, lower limb complications are multifactorial. The main factors are not only neuropathy but also ischemia.
The atherosclerotic process in diabetes is accelerated, multi segmental with predilection for vessels below popliteal artery.Dyslipidemia and tobacco consumption if present, further worsen the problem.
Diabetic peripheral neuropathy leads to impaired sensations in lower limbs.
Although your doctor must have felt the arteries but still smaller arteries and capillaries can't be felt and hence you must get a Doppler studies for lower limbs done to know the partial occlusion,if present.
Thanks

Care of foot and control of diabetes is most important part of treatment. Use of well padded shoes and care against any injury should be done. Emmoliants, coconut oil and talc in web spaces are also recommended
