What Is The Recovery Time For Pilonidal Cyst?

i have just been diagnosed with a pilonidal cyst which has burst. I have been on penicillin for almost a week. Although it is healing well, I am not sure how much time to take off work for it to heal properly as my job entails sitting for lengths of time and at the moment I cant do that. How long does it normally take to heal?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history and understood the concerns.

Since the pilonidal cyst has opened up not this is a pilonidal sinus. Sinus will be recurrent unless the tract is completely healed which can occur rarely.
Hence you should be ready to see how the sinus progresses and if this becomes recurrent then you obviously need an excisional surgery. There are many ways this surgery is done. Please consult your General Surgeon to get a proper diagnosis and further management.
Recovery time thus can not be said at the moment as nothing is certain about outcome in any sinus disorder.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant,
General Surgeon
