What Is The Dosage For Cephalexin Pills For Infection?

I was recently prescribed cephalexin pills for a pilonidal infection, at 500MG, 4 times a day for 10 days. I started taking it this morning, but I m a little unsure about how the dosage works. I m a little paranoid about taking it too often. I can t see being able to take the dose every 6 hours, otherwise one would be in the middle of the night, but I don t want to take all 4 doses within the 16 or so hours I m awake as that would only be every 4 hours. How often can I take each dose in a safe manner?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Cephalexin is commonly prescribed to treat skin and soft tissue infections like pilonidal sinus caused by susceptible bacteria.

Its recommended dose for adults is 250 to 333 mg every 6 hours. Since it seems to be inconvenient for you it may also be taken in the dose of 500 mg every 12 hours.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
