Hello, and I hope I can help you today.
First I want to say congratulations on becoming a grandmother!
Normally, it takes women 6 to 8 weeks to completely heal from a cesarean section. However, women can generally walk around and carry their newborn, and perform all essential duties of newborn care after discharge from the hospital, which normally takes 3 to 4 days. After that, many women, unless they already have limited mobility or are
obese, are able to adequately perform household duties as well as position the child for breast-feeding. Use of a pillow to support the baby while breast-feeding in bed or sitting up can help make this less difficult. Your daughter' doctor will likely discharge her with a prescription for pain medication to take it home which will make it easier for her to get up and move around.
However, I am sure that your daughter will benefit from your presence in the early weeks after delivery new matter what condition she is in! Your guidance and support in early childcare I'm sure will be helpful for her and allow her to get a bit more sleep which certainly can be difficult in the early days when the baby comes home.
So I wish you both luck for the delivery and the rest of your daughter's pregnancy!
Sincerely, Dr. Brown
