What Is The Reason For The Itching And Swelling In The Vaginal Area Having Sexually Active?

I am 31 years old, sexually active. I have had intense itching in the hood area of my vagina, and when I checked it a couple days ago it looked swollen. There is no pain while urinating or while cleaning. The intensity varies from one day to another. This has lasted about a week so far,

Thanks for your question. The vast majority of the time, itching around the vaginal opening or the clitoris is from yeast overgrowth. Bacterial infections can also cause this type of itching. Most bacterial infections have an unpleasant odor from the vagina associated with them. It would be worth an over the counter treatment for yeast such as Monistat cream to see if that will resolve the itching. If not, a trip to your doctor is in order.
