What Is The Reason For Shooting Pain From Back And Rib Cage Area While Lifting Weight?
Hi. I m a 58 yr. old woman in generally ok health. A few mos. ago I lifted some heavy boxes. I think it was about the next day or two, I had pain shooting from my middle back and my lower left rib cage area at the same time whenever I lifted any somewhat heavy items. Then I noticed when I looked in the mirror, that the area on top of my lower left bottom ribs is swollen a little bit. My dr. ruled out anyting major - but I m concerned it may be a rib dislocation or a hernia? The pain is not constant - just when I lift something heavier than about 2-3 lbs. or so, I think...any ideas?
Hi your doctor seems to be right Forget about dislocation and hernia For hital hernia which is very remote possibility get an endoscopy done to remove doubt WHAT is happening is that when you lift heavy objects to which you are used to the nerves along ribs get irritated and inflamed because of contraction of chest and and back muscled and this gives feeling of pain and at times irritation Please give few days rest to torn muscles and inflamed nerves by avoiding lifting heavy objects so healing process is complete You can also apply ice packs once or twice a day for few days to expedite healing
Dont worry Take care and enjoy Dr Lal Psychiatrist
