What Is The Reason For Gas And Swollen Stomach?

I have been having issues with ibs. I went to a gastroentercologist and she did a sonogram of my liver and kidneys then she did a vaginal examination. The results came back with nothing wrong but, I still have a lot of gas and my stomach is swollen. Do you think if I got a colonoscopy, the issue with my gas would go away? Also, I'm 42 years old and I have not had a regular menstral cycle. I am not on any type of birth control, could I be going through menopalse?
Thank you for your assistance.
