What Is The Life Expectancy For Patients With Low WBC Count?

My 68 yr old father diagnosed with aml very low blast count. No mutations present at all. Treating with vidaza. Presented with low white blood count. Made it through 7 days of chemo. Says he feels great. Wbc getting higher slowly? My question is what are his chances of remission and survival rate. No other health problems found. Wbc dropped within a couple months. Found on routine blood tests. Sought hemo dr. And they did bone aspirations.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* As per my clinical experience, the life expectancy depends upon multiple parameters as:

- host immunity
- cause of low WBC count
- associated bone marrow disorder or abnormality
- inborn errors of wbc adhesive molecules
- immunocompromised states

* In general, if the chemo is responding and stop further down growth of WBC, some hope can be figured out.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
