What Is The Life Expectancy For Brain Tumor Patient?

My sister was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer back in March of last year! They treated with chemotherapy and radiation treatments. At the end of October last year she was given the all clear of cancer. Wow we thought this is fantastic. Yeah right! Short lived! She has now been diagnosed with an aggressive frontal malignant brain tumour. They thought she would only have between 2 to 4 weeks to live as of the 30th December last year, she has been having radiation to the brain for some weeks now and the last dose they can give her is Thursday of this week. She talks to you, walks about 30metres a day. eats and eats all day, but how long do you really think she has, as the doctors here just do not have a clue?

I'm sorry to hear the news about your sister for sure...but so glad that she proved those doctors WRONG...for sure! I certainly don't want to be just another "doc who doesn't have a clue" because the truth is, none of us do any more than you or anyone in your family.

What is a definite is that she has a terminal condition. So that means that she needs to get her house in order as soon as feasible, right? Has she done that or has anybody from the family helped her along with all of those details? If so, then, she and you guys can set yourselves on CRUISE CONTROL man...and enjoy the top down and the wind in your hair!

She has beaten the odds to this point and I think that is a blessing beyond blessings. Now, instead of focusing on how close the end is...why not look to all the days ahead that you, the family, and she can spend together?

And this is the advice coming from someone who predicted TO THE DAY 3 out of 4 of our children's birthdays from the time my wife missed her period with each one! And that's a true story...and no they weren't planned C-sections or anything like that.....I nailed 3/4 birthdays to the day! But ask me to predict the day someone's not going to be with us? That's where I draw the line. Everyone is an individual with immune systems and metabolisms that handle different illnesses uniquely.

I believe longevity also has a heckuva a lot to do with a person's attitude and outlook on things...don't you? I think the fact that your sister is around is in large part due to the fact that SHE WANTS TO BE AROUND....the day that someone decides they've seen everyone they need to see, done everything on the bucket list, and are tired of the smell of hospital rooms, and even worse hospital food....well, that's the day that the clock literally starts winding down.....but why not go the other direction here and give your sister all sorts of reasons to continue wanting to carry on? Maybe it's a fight, maybe it's a struggle....maybe it's just climbing another hill for her...she's climbed so many to this point.

Make sure she gets all the food she wants....good appetite is a very good sign of health...so encourage it....get her the good stuff too.....and everything she likes...do you guys have a Trader Joes or a Whole Foods where you're at?

And get her on www.lumosity.com--- I play it almost every day...great for the brain and a little hand/eye coordination.

I'll even go out on a limb here and make the following claim that if she keeps up with where she's at now and you guys can help her enjoy the days even more and keep her mind as active as possible...and try and get that 30 meters daily out to about 50 meters over the next 45-60 days that she just might go at LEAST to the end of 2014 with the same voracious appetite she has today.

Wouldn't it be nice to keep having that type of appetite and energy she seems to have right on the last day of one's life? I'd love that.....instead of just slowing down little by little....I'd just rather it be 100% today....and then, fall off the cliff tomorrow so to speak if it were me....at least I'd be going on my own terms and in the way I liked to live....consider what I've said and hopefully, as I said, you'll be coming back in December of this year telling me, "see, you were right-- you wouldn't predict when she was going to be done in....you predicted that she'd still be around and she is... and still goin' strong!"

And to me that's where doctors should be focusing their predictive energies and educating the public and families how to make those sorts of predictions come true because as I said I don't think it's a hard thing to do...IF THE PERSON OF INTEREST is willing to allow their natural instincts of survival to just get a little more ornery!
