What Is The Difference Between Nexium 40mg Capsules And Omeprazole 40mg?

What is the difference between Nexium 40mg. Caps and Omeprazole 40mg. Caps. Have been on Nexium for many years with excellent results but now must search for a lower cost drug due to the Medicare donut hole which I reached in July. My doctor did switch me to Omeprazole 40 mg.Caps

I can understand your concern for the efficacy of the prescribed medications.
Nexium (Esompeprazole) & Omeprazole act by suppressing the acid production in the stomach hence are effective in the treatment of stomach problems like gastritis, ulcer or reflux disease. Both are equally effective in preventing the gastritis and also promote the healing of the stomach ulcer. However, Nexium is slightly better in terms of its potency in suppressing the acid production.
