DOES OMEPRAZOLE AND NEXIUM HAVE THE SAME INGREDIENTS? WHY DOES NEXIUM SEEM WORK BETTER FOR ME THAN OMEPRAZOLE? TAKING 40MG A DAY OF BOTH....HAD TO SWITCH 1 1/2 MON AGO DUE TO COST & 3 MONTH MANDORY MAIL ORDER PRESCRIPTION....SWALLOWING DIFFICULTIES & "LUMP" IN MY THROAT FEELING IS BACK AFTER 2 YEARS.

They are not the same medication and but there are in the same family of drugs. The drugs are similar but would have slightly different structures.

Drugs in the same family can sometimes work in slightly different ways. Because of this , they can have slightly different effects in persons. This is the reason you may find that the nexium works better for you.

There are other medications in this family of drugs as well that may also be helpful at a different price. Examples are prevacid, protonix, aciphex.
