What Is The Chronic Pain In Sternum While There's Pressure On It?

I have noticed discomfort (mild pain) while pressuring my sternum(heart bone),and the pain continued for last two months.Sometimes, I can still feel it in the morning and even certain movements cause the same pain. If I take deep breath and pressure my sternum,I feel the less pain. I have no breathing problems. I have been diagnosed sino-bronchial syndrome 4 years ago,and also have some allergies (dust, pollen etc). I must confess that I've been smoking for about 3 months but I quit it 2 weeks ago,and I still feel the same pain.

Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
By your history and description, possibility of musculoskeletal pain (costochondritis) is more because you are having pain on pressure and with movements.
So, no need to worry for lung or heart related diseases.
Avoid heavyweight lifting and strenuous exercise. Avoid movements causing pain. Avoid bad postures in sleep. Take painkiller and muscle relaxant drugs. Apply warm water pad on affected areas. Don't worry, you will be alright with all these.
If not improving then get done ecg, chest x ray and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test) to rule out heart and lung related diseases.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
