What Is The Cause Of Blood In The Urinalysis?

son has crohns with many extraintestinal manifistations including LCV and HsP among others. He presented with up to 30-40 RBC and 2+ protein a year ago b4 being systemically treated with methotrexate, remicade and steroids, in the hope that the inflammation would exit his kidneys and calm down in his intestinal tract.
Joinnt pain, nausea, fatigue, psoriasis type head sores and ocaissional bouts with LCV and pyoderma have plague him for years. a well meaning nephroglogist told us the Kidneys would just "go" and we needed to keep an eye on them. It's been over a year he has enjoyed good health and I am worred that the recurrence of even a small amount of blood in his urnalysis could be his disease preciptating out in his kidneys

Hello and thank you for asking HCM.

I read carefully all your concerns about your son. If there is blood in the urine (haematuria ) of your son, it doesn't always mean that the disease has taken the kidneys too. There are a lot of other reasons for haematuria . It might be a stone in the UT, or even an infection of UT. So if in one of the urinary test, there is an elevated of red blood cells, an urine culture might help to find if it has an UTI or not. Also the urine test will show you the function of the kidneys and if there is a problem with those or not.

Feel free to contact me any time.
