What Is The Cause Of Blood In The Stool?

I am 22 and have had a few instances over the past 4 or 5 months of seeing a small amount of blood on my toilet paper. Its bright red and has usually just been small amounts but today there was a decent amount on it. There is none in the toilet and my movements are ranging from soft to decently solid to occasional diarrhea. I am also diabetic, if this helps. It itches slightly but i have no cramps or stomach pains. Any help?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood the concerns.
Blood on tissue paper without any pain or blood in toilet water.
The slight itching and varied consistency indicated mild intestinal infection that can cause peri- anal excoriation and thus blood only on tissue paper.
I would advise you the following in such a situation.
Consult your Doctor, preferably a General Surgeon for clinical evaluation, examination and proctoscopy to see for any piles, fissures.
Get a course of an antibiotic.
Take probiotics, yoghurt, banana, activated charcoal, soft and bland diet.
Clean the anal area with plain water 3-4 times a day and keep dry.
Diabetes needs to be well controlled for successful management.
Colonoscopy and CT scan I'd there is no complete relief with the above measures.
