What Is The Cause For The Pain In The Top,middle Part Of My Middle Section With Rheumatoid Arthritis?

Hello, I am a 33 year old, female with poor health since the age of 2. I have never been pregnant and have not had a menstrual cycle in over a year, which has happened other times as well. My question is what could cause pain in the top, middle part of my middle section? I do have gastroperesis, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis (began as Juvenile Reumatoid Arthritis at age 2), collagenous colitis, and many other diseases and ailments. I also have a pain pump that was surgically implanted in May of 2013. It resides in the upper, right side of my middle section. The problem area is aggravated when I put pressure on it and immediately turns red. For a little under a year I have been having severe bloating and distension. I am confined to a wheelchair so exercising has been very difficult for weight loss especially. For the most part it consists of massage therapy, stretching, and assisted movement. Lastly I am on over 15 medications. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, I know it is difficult when you don t have all the facts.

Given your very complicated medical history, it shouldn't surprise you that there is no simple answer. I hope you have, or will obtain a good local internist to coordinate the care you receive from your specialists. That is an invaluable component of care of the complex patient.
If you are looking for a simple solution to try, one common cause of distention and flatus, episodic discomfort is lactose intolerance. Inability to digest milk sugars can worsen with age, and is easily addressed with over the counter lactase, the missing enzyme (brand name lactaid), or avoidance.
I think a GI doctor would be a good place to start your work up, but please consult your internist.
