What Is The Cause For Hard Itchy Painful Lump Along The Butt Crack? Treating Shingle With Zovirax

I have a hard itchy achy sore lump in my right buttocks along the butt crack approx 8 inches long in varying degrees of pain and hardness. On the outer skin I have a shingle being treated woth oral Zovirax. The lump inside is my main pain and concern. What might be the cause or name of such condition.

Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at HCM

I would keep a possibility of bacterial infection.

I would have advised an oral antibiotic with coverage against staph. (penicillin group) for a week along with antiviral (Zovirax) which you are already taking.

Topical antibacterial ointment like 2% mupirocin twice daily would help in faster resolution of infection.

An OTC painkiller like ibuprofen twice or thrice daily would help in relieving the pain.
