What Is The Cause For Bleeding During Pregnancy As It Didn't Subside With Utogeston?

I had a miscarriage three years ago. I recently found out I'm pregnant nd stated spotting last weekend. I went to a hospital this Monday, had urine n blood tests as well a scan and everything was confirmed ok. My doctor prescribed utogestan 100 twice a day. The bleeding has increased now.why is that?

Hello,
Sometimes, if there is a threatened abortion where there is no need for hormone replacement, use of progestins has been shown to cause more harm than benefit. The exact cause of this is not known, but, if there is increase in the bleeding subsequent to use of progestins, then definitely the pregnancy is either not responding to the treatment or there is another cause for the bleeding. Please take absolute bed rest, inform your doctor of the increased bleeding and try to relax. Sometimes, the bleeding subsides on its own and the pregnancy continues without any harm to the fetus. Wish you good luck.
