Hello, and I hope I can answer your question.
In the US, the recommended dose of misoprostil to complete a first-trimester
abortion is 800 mg (four 200 mg tablets) placed in the vagina. The dose should be repeated in 8 hours if nothing happens for a maximum of 3 doses (24 hours).
It is possible, unless you had an
ultrasound confirming the dates of the
pregnancy, that you are further along than you thought and the medication is less effective then.
Another possibility, although rare, is that the pregnancy is not in your uterus; you may have a tubal pregnancy which is actually a condition that needs prompt treatment.
I would first repeat a urine pregnancy test to make sure that the preganacy is still there. Then i suggest repeating the misoprostil at the correct dose and if nothing happens after 24 hours, you should see an
OBGYN for an ultrasound to make sure the pregnancy is in the uterus and how far along you are. You may need a surgical procedure to complete the termination.
I hope this answered your question and that my advice was helpful.
Best wishes, Dr. Brown
