What Is Causing Pain By My Intestinal Tract Post Rectopexy?

Howdy, on february 5 2014 i had a retectepexy. they removed a foot of my lower colon, for I had a decended bowel. they used staples to hold my colon against my sacrum wall and to keep the resection together. the past few days I have been having extreme pain in my right side by my intestinal tract. It feels like there is a blockage when I go at the base of my rectum. I cant say for sure right now if my colon is coming out again for if it is its just beging. what should I do? and how would i know if the staples in my body came out?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,
I can understand your concern for your symptoms
1) Staples never come out once applied. Only matters is whether applied correctly or not.
2) Rectopexy with staples is safe and secure surgery. It is unlikely that you have prolapse again unless you strain more to pass stool in early post-operative periods. (this gives pain but it is unlikely to have prolapse again)
3) Pain after this surgery is due to application of staples very near to nerves where they coming out from spinal cords. This gives neuralgic type of pain in area supplied/distributed by that nerve.
