What Is Pitocin Prescribed For?

I WENT TO THE HOSPITAL YESTERDAY FOR AN INDUCTION IN CHILDBIRTH. IT DID NOT WORK, SO THEY SENT ME HOME. I AM 39 WEEKS, AND HAVE 3 OTHER CHILDREN ALL WHO WENT OVERDUE, THEN WERE SUCCESSFULLY INDUCED. WILL THE PICTOCIN THAT I RECIVED YESTERDAY STAY IN MY SYSTEM A LITTLE AND POSSIBLEY BRING ON LABER A LITTEL EARLIER?

Hi,
I understand your concern.
Ing. pitocin (mostly in drip form )is given to the patient like you for induction of labor. It directly stimulates uterine muscles to contract, and ( some times)after withdrawal it stimulates our body system to start up with progression of labor by secreting hormones to start uterine contractions.
* Induction some times, may take a longer time to start, The pitocin also needs to be instilled in calculated dose. so many a times doctor has to give break in induction.
* Please don't worry.Doctors try to induce normal delivery while monitoring mother/baby health conditions. You had good induction thrice before, you will have it this time too.Hope for the best.
Thanks.
