What Does Urinary Retention In An Old Aged Person Indicate?

My mother is a bedridden 95-year old. She wears diapers and cannot stand. When we would move her, urine would fall with gravity. We already know she is near death, but today she didn t urinate in over 8-hours, which was unusual. Could this mean her kidneys are failing?

Hello
Anuria means not passing of urine .
In your mother case anuria may be due to acute renal failure . Diagnosis can be confirmed by serum creatinine level examination .
Dehydration ,if proper amount of liquid is not received in last 24-48 hours due to any reason .
Some blood clot ( due to old age ) impacted in the urethra .
Since her age is 95 yrs and terminally ill just call a physician and get his opinion as physical examination will be important.

Good luck.
