What Does This Pelvic Ultrasound Suggest?

Hi,

I had a pelvic ultrasound and this is what the report describes. Could you please tell me what this means? Thank you for your help.

Ultrasonography of pelvis

Urinary bladder is well distended and appears normal. No echo reflective calculus or soft tissue mass noted. Both U-V junctions appear normal.

Uterus is anteverted and normal in size measuring 6.6 X 3.6 X 4.2 cms. No focal myometrical lesion is noted. Endometrial cavity is central and measures 8.7 mm in thickness.

Both ovaries are bulky(esp the left) and show multiple follicles with normal stromal echogenicity. The largest measuring 25 X 19 mm in the left ovary appears to be a collapsed follicle. No solid or cystic adnexal mass lesion is noted on either side.

RO - 3.9 X 1.9 X 3.3cms; volume-13.6cc.

LO - 5.5 X 2.7 X 3.4cms; volume-27cc.

No free fluid is noted in cul-de-sac.

No pelvic lymphadenopathy is noted on either side.

IMPRESSION: Study reveals:

No other significant abnormality.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As per your report, both ovaries are bulky and show multiple follicles. So, my probable diagnosis is PCOD (Polycystic Ovarian Disease).

But, we have to confirm it by detailed history regarding other symptoms like weight gain, infertility, acne, extra hairs, and irregular periods. So, I will suggest you to consult with gynecologist with reports or review here with detailed history.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam B. Kale
