Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 84yo mother s body is 138/59 and heart rate is 47. She takes valsartan htctz 320/12.5 and atenolol 25mg. On her own, she only took 1/2 of her valsartan today. Her bp is normally good, and this is unusual. How much of a concern is her bp/hr? She has an appt fri with her pcp, but should I have her seen earlier? Thank you, Joe Parker. I m her full time caregiver. She also has Alzheimer s.
BP 138/59 mm Hg is fairly normal. There is no worry from that point of view. However, heart rate of 47/minute, is a definite bradycardia (slow rate). It is better if she is checked by a cardiologist. Some times age related conduction defects may be there. Since she is on Atenolol, that also can cause slow heart rate. Still it is better to get an opinion from a cardiologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Prabhakar Laxman Jathar

What Does This BP Reading Of 138/59 Indicate?
