What Does These Uteral Study Reports After Laproscopy For Multiple Fibroids Indicate?

I am 29 years old and I have had a laproscopy done to remove multiple fibroids. I have received a letter from the surgeon stating the following. What does it mean -     The uterus was multi fibroid and 10 week size, anteverted – was the total size of the multiple fibroids 10 weeks pregnant size?? -     The hysteroscopy revealed a uterine cavity with a ‘distinct polyp’ on the posterior wall which was removed. There was some distortion of the endometrial cavity secondry to fibroids. The uterus was then instrumented. – What does a disntct polyp mean? Is there a problem that the uterus was instrumented? -     A 4 port laproscopy revealed multi fibroid uterus..The 3 fibroids were removed seperatley. Both tubes were patent. What does this mean? The uterus now has a normal size and appearance?? How long does it take to heal? I do not see my GP till 2 week from now and would like answers on what this means? Do polyps grow back? Is this going to affect my pregnancy? I am a little worried as my husband and I are going to try to conceive in the coming weeks. Please advise.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
I am Dr Nilajkumar a consultant gynecologist and I will be helping you in your queries.
Please stop worrying. There seem to have been quiet a few problems in the uterus and it seems that most of them have been addressed now.

The polyp is an excess overgrowth of the endometrial lining and occur due to high estrogen. So it has been removed. The use of the word instrumentation is routine as we cannot operate without instruments and they were needed to remove the polyps. Remember that the laproscope is also an instrument. So if you had a laproscopy, you were instrumented. Hope this is clear now.

The fibroids were making the uterine cavity irregular [ distortion of the uterine cavity]. This hampers fertility. So after removing the fibroids the uterus size was normal and it also looked normal which is a good news. Patent tubes means that the tubes are open and so another factor of tubal block causing a problem with fertility has been ruled out and also surgery has not caused any damage to the tubes.

So everything is good and you must not have any worries.

It is not advocated to conceive until 3-6 months after surgery to allow for sufficient time for wound healing. So do not be in a hurry for this. Wait for at least 3 months. If pregnancy occurs too early then there are problems of the scar of the surgery being thin and tearing away. So be patient in this. It is best to consult your surgeon as he will be the best in guiding you in this regard as he knows the extent of surgery as well as if the endometrial cavity was opened while surgery [ affects outcome of surgery].

So best of luck and get well soon.
Hope this was helpful.
Feel free to ask any further queries and I will be happy to help.
Thanks for using HCM.
Have a good day.
