What Does The Spermogram Report Say?

Hello. We just got my husband's spermogram (he has done others before) and I was wondering if you could let me know what they mean by the following sentence: "There are 0-2 spermatozia/hpf in the direct wet mount smear preparation. Sperm cell morphology, viability, motility, sperm concentration and total sperm count cannot be assessed due to paucity of spermatozoa in the sample". Thank you

Hi,

Your total sperm count is very less.

So further workup needed for that.

You have to first repeat your semen analysis after three days of sexual abstinence period.

If still abnormal then investigate with serum FSH, LH, prolactin, testosterone estimation and USG testes.

It will help in rule out the specific underlying cause.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami, General & Family Physician
