What Does The Following Skin Biopsy Report Suggest?

I was just diagnosed with perivascular lymphohistiocytic inflammation with red cell extravasation. It also says, the differential diagnosis includes progressive pigmented purpura versus drug eruption. In laymen s terms, please, what does this all mean?

Hello,

The description given is about skin eruption following a reaction to the drug. Perivascular means around a blood vessel with presence of lymphocytes (a white blood cell) and inflammation in the skin. Purpura is when bleeding occurs below the skin. Extravasation means blood cells (RBCs) have come out of the vessel.

The whole description is a skin lesion as a reaction to some drug intake and mostly a delayed reaction.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Prabhakar Laxman Jathar
