What Does The MRI Report Mean?

My daughter's MRI showed an "indeterminant 4.5 mm T2 hyperintense superior left intraparotid lesion bordering the junction of the superficial and deep lobes possibly a lymph node. However, other eitiologies such as pleomorphic adenoma cannot be entirely excluded. Clinical correlation with serial palpation suggested. What does this mean? I have an appt for her to see an ENT next week...

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM,
The interpretation of the MRI report is as follows:
There is presence of a circumscribed lesion in the parotid gland.
This lesion could be a lymph node or a benign lesion of the salivary gland itself.
The exact nature of the lesion can be estimated by performing an investigation called fine needle aspiration cytology.
In this investigation, cellular material is aspirated from the lesion and spread on glass slides.
The cellular material is spread on a slide and stained with appropriate stains.
These stained cells are examined under the microscope to know type of lesion and its origin.
Consult your ENT specialist for clinical examination and investigations.

Thanks and take care
