What Does Swelling Under The Chin Indicate?

My husband is swollen under the chin about a orange in size. We have been to the dentist, oral surgeon and now referred to a ENT specialist have an appointment in 2 weeks. Wanting to know should we put heat or cold on it to help reduce the swelling?

Hello,

Your husband has symptoms of swelling under the chin which seems to be due to infection and inflammation of lymph nodes in that area and could be strep throat. Need not to worry. I would suggest you apply warm compresses on the affected area as it will soothe your symptoms. Take plenty of fluids to maintain hydration.

If symptoms keep on persisting visit ENT specialist once and get it examined and go for strep test as well. Start treatment after a thorough examination and start with the proper course of antibiotics along with anti-inflammatory medications. Take soft and cool foodstuffs. Take Aleve for pain removal.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
