What Does Short Femur And Humerus In Baby During Pregnancy Indicate?

My age is 34, height-163cm and current weight 84.3. 34 weeks ultra scan discover baby short femur and humerus, below 5 percentile. But my husband and I did not have any family history. Doctor suggested induce birth at 37 weeks. Doctor also mentioned water bag water level at 24.8. I am very worried now. This is my 2nd child and my first child born 4 years ago is normal.

OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine 's  Response
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Short humerus and short femur, and that too below 5 th percentile is suggestive of some skeletal dysplasia in the fetus . Amniotic fluid index of 25 and more is Polyhydramnios, and it is found in fetus with skeletal dysplasia. In your case also, the fluid is more (24.8).
Some skeletal dysplasias are lethal, while some have associated anomalies and mental retardation.
I would suggest you to consult a fetal medicine specialist as soon as possible, get a detailed ultrasound, and take further decision accordingly.
Skeletal dysplasias mostly occur sporadically, with no family history.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Wishing you good health.
