What Does Rare Atypical Squamous Cells In Pap Test Indicate?

I'm a 55 y/o woman, my PAP came back "rare atypical squamous cells", and my Primary Care MD is sending me for additional tests. Does "rare" in that mean few, or could it mean rare as in not ususal? I did have a CT scan come back, about 5 months ago, with a spot that a MD said was "probably" just the plura pinched together, and I'm presently showing signs of a colon problem (my Father had colon cancer).

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

Rare atypical squamous cells are a subgroup of cells which may appear in conventional cervical smears. It may need further tests to say that you do not have any further problems.

The pinched pleura in CT scan is not a concern of worry.

For the colon problems you may discuss with your doctor and get a colonoscopy done as your father had colon cancer.
